I'm a way too busy mama of two wonderful kids and I've created these blogs to not only share their pictures and achievements with all my friends and family but also to chronicle their childhood which is going by way too fast!
Dominic loves his dojo days and is having a great time making friends with the other kids and running around like crazy. He earned his first yellow stripe this week! YAY Dominic!
Oh yes, because VT weather is never predictable (unless we're having a party, thank you party gods) we got about 6 inches of snow in between all our beautiful weather. It was heavy wet nasty stuff and we lost a couple of trees.
Easter and Christmas seem to come in phases for the kids. This year Easter came with the arrival of baskets from Nan & Pop which the kids were thrilled to get. After that we had Easter at our house of course and then off to Gee & Papa's house. It's currently May and we still have candy. :-) The weather was so beautiful the kids got to have an easter egg hunt outside which I have never actually done before.
Dominic has discovered the Wii. He loves it and as long as the game doesn't require reading he's actually pretty good. He's figured out how to use both controllers when needed and completely got sucked into "Alice and Wonderland." And like me, he sticks his tongue out when he's playing.
It's been a while since I've updated the kids blogs. In the last two months I've completed my thesis, taken the comprehensive exams on campus in Florida to finish my Masters, been tremendously busy at work and then we all got sick! It's been crazy.
I overheard this while the kids got undressed for bath.
"Samantha, where is your penis? How are you going to pee without a penis? You have to have a penis. Everyone has a penis."
I'm amazed it took him this long to notice. :-) Especially since we've had some pretty involved "Where babies come from" conversations at his prompting!
Afterwords he told me that Samantha did not have a penis and I explained that only boys have penises. Then we had to go through who had one and who didn't. Including the pets. Which led to a conversation on why Bodhi (our dog) has a hairy butt. He's too cute!
Two weeks ago after yet another night of the two kids laying on top of me I decided that it was time that at least Dominic started sleeping in his own bed. So I had a talk with him about what he needed to be able to sleep in his own bed. At first he said he needed a new sound machine since his old one broke right before we went to Italy, then he decided that he didn't actually need that. I told him if he slept in his own bed all week that I would take him to Toys R Us and he could pick out one toy. That was huge motivation for him! There were a few very early mornings, a couple of nights of me laying in his bed for a half hour and only one night where he asked to sleep in our bed. He did fantastic. He fell off the wagon once but he's been sleeping in his own bed for the last two weeks! His price at Toys R Us? A SpongeBob Lego set which I thought was appropriate since it's definitely a big kid toy! (Maybe a little too big since I ended up setting it up.)
Since then though it's amazing! He's doing so much more for himself now. Once morning 15 minutes before the alarm he called for me and when I came out he was trying to open up his vitamins (thank you child caps). I asked "What are you doing?" He said "I'm getting ready." He was completely dressed and had his teeth brushed! He got himself totally ready. It's crazy, what a big boy he's become.
His new feat, learning to turn on the tv and satellite by himself.
So the other night I was thinking about Dominic when Samantha was born. At that point he was in the stage of pointing out body parts and when we showed her to him he pointed out "Eyes. Nose. Mouth." It's hard to think of him doing one word sentences when all he talks about now is starting school. He really wants to start and I am so not ready! My little boy is definitely growing up.
After Samantha crashed at Bayley's party her and I went to bed which I very much needed. Dominic wanted to wait for the ice cream so he stayed with Daddy and apparently got a second wind! He ran like crazy until the party was over and he came to bed at 11:30pm. This was before he got sick.
The next day he had a great time playing bartender at Pop's party and had made a good $25 at one point, putting ice into cup and passing out tiny amounts of cranberry juice. Nan told him to hang on to the money but he handed it all back out. All in all we went through a bottle of children's tylenol and 3/4 of a bottle of children's motrin. Both kids had fevers and I knew we were on a bad day for Dominic when daddy suggested staying in bed all day and Dominic didn't argue.
Even still, we had limited time and Dominic had really wanted to see the beach. So our last day we dragged everyone out. We stopped multiple times in the car because Dominic felt ill but we got to the beach and he loved seeing the waves. After about 20 minutes we left to get to bed before our very early flight in the morning.
We had planned a week in Florida to be there for Bayley's Sweet 16 and Pop's Surprise 70th birthday. At the last minute we decided that first we'd do a day in the Magic Kingdom. It was a good thing we planned it first because it was the only remotely healthy day we had the entire trip. Me and the kids all spent the week sick.
The Magic Kingdom was great. It still had the Christmas decorations up and Main Street played Christmas music. Dominic insisted on going on the Haunted Mansion first (he had seen it on the computer) and promptly started crying when we got inside. Thankfully he made it through and a trip though It's a Small World helped get the creeps away. He had a wonderful time on the rides and liked seeing the characters although he refused to go up to Mickey. The Spectrovision parade and Fireworks were amazing!
