Sleep, Scares and Laughs

Well, It's been an eventful week for our little Dominic. He gave mommy quite the scare the other day. Since Dominic has such great head control now I figured that I would try out our ultimate baby wrap. www.ultimatebabywrap.com for those who want to see it. It's basically 18 feet of t-shirt type material that you wrap around to create a baby carrier. There are a bunch of ways to carry the baby but since Dominic likes looking out at the world I put him face forward. So far so good, he was kicking his feet and waving his hands around. Hmmm.. let's see if he minds if I vacuum. I turned the vacuum on and he was fine, great! So we proceed to vacuum the upstairs everything is going wonderful, Dominic is happy and I have 2 hands. Now we're on the downstairs and as I lift up the vacuum head to clear something I realize that Dominic doesn't look up. In fact, he's not kicking his feet and his head is really dangling down. I know I'm moving the vacuum but the floor is just not that interesting. I look at his neck and there's nothing tight around it but I have this awful thought "Oh my God, I strangled my baby!" I move so that I can see his face and his eyes are closed and my stomach sinks. I lift up his head with my hand and his eyes open and he looks at me like "do you mind?" He closes them again and starts to snore! Apparently the carrier is pretty comfy! phew!

Speaking of sleep. I really thought he was going to start to sleep through the night. We were so close I could taste it! For about 4 days he was sleeping between 5 and 5.5 hours a night in one stretch, then he slept 6.5 hours one night. It was amazing! I thought, wow, he's really going to start doing it! Then for the last 3 night he's been up every 2 hours again! (sigh) Oh well. Maybe he just knows that mommy is getting depressed about going back to work. :-(

On a positive note, Dominic had his first real belly laugh while dancing with daddy in Old Navy. It was absolutely adorable! We're looking forward to many more now! He's also about *this close* to rolling over from his back to his stomach. He just gets stuck a little on his arm but he's getting there! I can't beleive how quickly he's growing.
